And just like that it went from summer and needing the air conditioner to winter and needing some heat to take the chill off the air. We got rain and not just some little drizzle. It was like a winter storm with enough wind to blow the casket that was part of Jakey's Halloween decorations into the yard. The ghost hanging from the tree looks as if getting wet made it dis-spirited.
Suddenly the Christmas stuff at Costco doesn't t look so out of place.
I am in a place where I am shuffling projects. I have been working on the next Yarn Retreat book, KNOT A DEAD END and getting into the flow of the story. Then this morning I heard from the Crochet and Crumpets series editor that I will be getting the edits of SCONED TO DEATH next week. I expect there will be a short deadline for my revision, so Casey, Dane and the rest of the Yarn Retreat people will be left to talk among themselves until I can get back to them.
To get in the mood to work on SCONED TO DEATH, I started a crochet project that my main character, Annie Sara might make. I already made a red hen like she makes in the book and now I'm making a little white one from a kit I got at Walmart. I already had to make changes in the pattern and rip it all out and start over. Frustrating as that is, I think I like the challenge of figuring out how to make it all work.
Just like much as I enjoy the speed of doing easy crosswords, it is very satisfying to figure out the "medium" crosswords. I like the idea of learning new things and hopefully stretching my horizons.

Good morning -- That little red hen is so cute -- nice she'll soon have a friend!!
Weather here is the same as yours -- had to get a warm robe to wear this morning. The rain was torrential -- almost four inches in a couple of days. There wasn't any flooding near me but several spots had some -- and high winds caused lots of damage. Weather forecast showing nothing but sun for the next 10 days.
I finished the ombre ripple afghan and am working on a granny rectangle. I've also started Christmas gifts -- a stole with a pocket on each end for my daughter-in-law. I made one for my daughter a couple of years ago and she said the pockets are great for the little notes teachers always seem to be carrying around.
Is there a scone recipe in "Sconed to Death"? I made angel biscuits yesterday -- they have yeast in them in addition to the baking powder -- they are so good and the dough can be kept in the refrigerator for a week or more, ready to bake just a few at a time. The smell of a yeast bread baking is so good.
Enjoy your day, your crocheting, your crossword puzzles -- whatever you choose to do. I choose to watch baseball this afternoon and crochet!!
I love the crossword and LOGIC puzzles too. Keep that mind sharp!
It looks like the wheelchair is going to keep me from doing Christmas boutiques--so disappointing. We no longer have little shops around here where one can rent spaces, so the holiday shows are about it.
I'm sure Jake will freshen up his decorations, and probably add a few new ideas too. He sounds like a very creative guy.
Write away--we are all waiting for the next book.
Looking forward to Scones…
The original Emotional Support Chicken knit (and now crochet too) pattern was written by Annette, the owner of The Knitting Tree LA near LAX. It’s a well written pattern and great fun to knit. I liked having mine in my Zoom backgrounds.
Patty, your weather was more severe than ours. But the suns out again and everything is nice and green.
The stole with pockets sounds great. Great place for a phone. As far as I know there won't be any recipes in the crochet and crumpet series. Your biscuits sound interesting with yeast and baking powder. It's nice that you can make a few at a time. It's too easy to eat too many biscuits if you have to bake the whole recipe at once. It's making me hungry to think about them.
Linda Osborn, Doing puzzles definitely keeps you sharp. It is fascinating to see how the answers come. Sometimes they jump out and other times, you have to look for them. I do notice how after working on a crossword for a while, the answers seem to come quicker.
I'm sorry you won't be able to do the Christmas boutiques. I remember going to Christmas bazaars when I was a kid. They were held at neighborhood churches and were always a treat. That was in Chicago, so they were all inside.
Jakey just came inside and wanted to show me how he and my son have made use of his old plastic slide and tee- ball pedestal for their Halloween extravaganza.
I want to get the set up for the next Casey book done over the weekend before I get the edits for SCONED TO DEATH.
Merna, thanks for telling me about the original support chicken and the yarn shop. I made the red one from a pattern I found online. I have a selection of animals and plants that I have crocheted that I like to have in the background for Zoom calls too.
I haven't figured out how to do those little crochet animals yet. I'm hoping to find a class as I learn better with someone showing me rather than a YouTube video. It's adorable.
Fall has hit Florida as well and it is glorious. In the summer I keep reminding myself that fall, winter, and spring is why I live here. Well, that and some of my grandkids are here.
Sally, A class might be a good idea. It is hard to see what they're doing in the videos. Every time, I always have to make a bunch of attempts when making a magic circle and videos don't help. Nice that you are getting fall weather. Being close to grandkids is the best!
The chicken is adorable. You have much more patience than I do when it comes to crocheting animals. The weather is funny. It can get hot in the daytime but cold at night and in the early morning.
Miriam, I know what you mean about the weather. No matter what you're going to be hot or cold. Making the animals is different than making an afghan. I have to totally concentrate and count stitches for each row. It is a challenge and there is frustration, but at the same time it is a diversion. And so much satisfaction (and maybe relief) when it's done.
How fun that you can create yarn animals that work well with your stories! And I agree that it's sometime fun to take on the challenge of a harder crossword puzzle.
