Attitude

All of a sudden I remember it was Thursday night and I hadn’t written my blog.  I have been spending my days working on the Crochet mystery and then switching over to working on our taxes, which amounts to dealing with Quickbooks.

Last year was the first time I had to use the program to get everything together for our accountant. He was insistent on having it that way.  I was angry that I had to use it and frustrated because I wasted so much time going in circles.  I spent hours on hold for credit card companies trying to figure out how to move what I needed to Quickbooks.  I didn’t know the right way to phrase my request which made it even worse.

I would go in circles and finally figure out how to do something, but after so many tries I didn’t remember which one worked.  Or if I did, I took notes which later seemed to make no sense.

I wasn’t starting from scratch this year as I had some memory of how I did things last year, but some of the credit card companies have changed things.  I spent forever being told by Chase bank that it no longer could work with my browser and to update to FireFox or Chrome. I kept getting the same message even after I changed my default browser to FireFox. But instead of getting crazy, I figured there had to be another way to do what I wanted.  And surprise, I was right.

That’s when I learned the secret.  It’s not something with the computer program.  It’s something with me.  It’s all about attitude.  I dropped the anger at having to use the program.  Instead of feeling frustration, I looked at it as a challenge. And instead of being worried I would fail, I felt confident I would  figure it out.

The same is true about doing anything that pushes  the envelope.  Attitude is everything. It works with writing too.  When I have those moments when I get a sinking feeling that I don’t know what to write, I give myself the “you can do it” pep talk.  It’s amazing what you can do when you let go of negative emotions.

Update on the sick kitty.   Spyderman hasn’t thrown up the foul stuff anymore, but he is very thin and doesn’t seem to be eating much.  He is being social and wants attention which is a good sign.  We took him to our regular vet today.  He checked out good except for the weight loss.  They took blood and we’ll know tomorrow what is what.

Your attitude adjustment is a good one. I struggle the same way, thinking I just CAN'T do something new. I do have a lot of physical limitations that have come on the last few years, but I need to get my chin up and attack more things !
Glad to hear the kitty is a little better--could he have gotten into some sort of poison or plant ?

Linda, it is amazing what a difference it makes when instead of being afraid you can't do something to feeling that you can. It's hard with physical limitations. I was horrified to realize how slow I was when I started doing the exercise videos. But then I told myself I could get better. I have a ways to go before I'll be able to keep up with the probably 20 something guy leading the class, but every time I get a tiny bit better.

Apparently, Spyderman has had bouts like this before. Once we hear about the results of his blood test, will know more. He is being his usual sweet self. He likes to drink water from the kitchen faucet and has been showing up in the sink at a normal rate again.

I'm glad to hear your cat is better. Zumba update: one of my teachers has started teaching online so I can dance with her in my kitchen without disturbing anybody. She is also leading an in person class socially distanced outside in a park. For me it's too hot to dance outside and I'm not sure I want to be around people yet even if it is outside. I'm also too lazy to drive to the park. Maybe later in the fall I will give it a try.

Chkntza, I'm glad you're able to Zumba in your kitchen. The one in the park sounds nice, but easier in your kitchen. As long as you get to dance, it's good.

I heard from the Vet about the cat's blood test and it was all good. He's 13 so he may just be slowing down.

I admire you for working hard to figure all that out, Betty--and learning how to deal with your attitude! And I definitely hope that Spyderman continues to improve.
