Changes

Less than a week ago it was 121 degrees here.  That isn’t a typo. It really was that hot. I only went outside long enough to hang up some laundry (yes, I like to air dry my laundry) and when I came inside I was so wiped out I had to take a nap.

And today– the sky  looks weird.  If I didn’t know better, I’d think it was a cloud layer making it seem gloomy, but it’s really smoke in the air from a fire in Angeles National Forest. The sun looked like we were having an eclipse and was almost a copper color. The temperature never got to the 90 that was predicted, but stayed right around 80.   The smoke in the air is keeping the temperature down and made it so I didn’t have to turn on the air conditioning, but what a price to pay.

I spent a good part of the day in Ventura at the beach.  It is the one place my daughter in law feels its safe for us to meet up with our grandson.  The sky was gloomy there, too, but it was from actual clouds instead of smoke.  And the temperature hovered in the low 60s, so that it was chilly even with a sweatshirt.  But spending time with my grandson, even if I have a mask on and can only blow him kisses instead of giving them to him directly is so worth it.

I am happy just to watch him be himself.  To see the person he’s becoming, to listen to him sing. I enjoyed watching him eat the fish and chips from a stand in Harbor Village.  I adore every moment spent with him.

I almost didn’t go because I have so many deadlines to keep, but I’ll just work later tonight.  And now its back to Molly.  Just a hint there’s a drone involved.   I wanted to see how they work and bought a small one at Costco.  My son couldn’t stop laughing, but then he’s used to me doing odd things.  Tomorrow I’ll give it it’s maiden flight.

Intriguing snippet about Molly. I'm looking forward to reading your new book.

Grandkids are the gift we are given for all the junk we've endured over the years. They are true treasures.

I thought you must be separated from Jakey for some reason. Hope things are better soon. I am sure you miss him terribly.
Therapy on my back and legs is actually making things worse, so I may have to have one of the little electronic devices implanted in my spine. I am not thrilled about that.
Maybe things will get back to normal for you and Jakey by the time Disneyland reopens. It is funny to see commercials for the Florida park on our local stations !
We must all be thinking about 9/11 today. I was shocked when I just read that it has been 19 years--incredible.

Sally,

I never understood until Jakey came along. But grandkids are the best.

Linda,

I am so sorry for your pain issues. I can understand how getting that device implanted would be scary. I hope it works.

My son can't wait to take Jakey to Disneyland. He's into Spiderman and other super heroes, so he'll love the new Marvel Land.

It is amazing that it's 19 years since 9/11. Even now it feels unbelievable what happened.

You and I experience at least some similar things here in L.A., Betty. But I haven't gone to the beach. And my grandsons are in Indiana, so we mostly hook up with them in video phone calls. I'm a bit jealous, even though you have to plan your adventures.
