What a difference a week makes. My day got upended and I had to set aside my work on the copy edit of MAKING IT WRITE. But this time for a happy reason. My grandson came over. It's the first time he's been over since early December. Not on us. We would have welcomed him anytime.
We missed his birthday and Christmas with him and he finally got his presents. He's five and a little person now. I find it so fascinating to watch who he is emerge. I remember being five and how grown up I felt. It gives me some insight into where he is at. Of course, it's a totally different world than what was around when I was 5. He talks of having rock star hair and saw bunch of stuff for sale at a car dealership and called it merch. The TV remotes are like an appendage for him.
It was a perfect day to be in the backyard. The blossoms on the orange trees are beginning to open and send their fabulous scent into the air. The sky was clear and everything is green. He found all his toys and seemed to be happy to be able to run around with abandon.
He and I spent some time together at the kitchen table talking. Well, he was talking and I was listening. And then, since he feels perfectly at home here, he went into the den to watch TV.
So nice to hear his feet running through the house. So nice to have his presence. There is some leeway in my working on the copy edit, so I could set everything aside for a day with no feeling I should be doing something else. Be in the moment, enjoying it.

I am so glad you had a visit from Jake ! I have had really close
relationships with several of my grandchildren, and I know how you feel.
Two moved to Idaho, and the others are all teens and young marrieds now--ouch!
There are now three little great granddaughters {all under 3} who are out of state and I don't see them at all.
Grandparents have rights, and I hope Jake's parents can have a good relationship for his sake, and let him spend time with you.
Linda Osborn, wow, great granddaughters! Too bad you don't get to see them.
Overnight we went from not seeing Jakey to him coming over every day for the last three days. We are thrilled and so is he. He found all his toys, loved being in the yard and spent time with all of us.
How wonderful that you not only got to see your grandson, but that he's been spending time in your home with you! And that you're learning more about who he is these days.
