I have scones on the brain. I am deep into writing the next Crochet and Crumpet book tentatively titled SCONED TO DEATH. I have been reading articles about different way to incorporate the butter in the batter. It is really interesting to learn about food science. I'm getting pressure to make some from my scone loving son.
The food in my books is my family's favorite part. No problem finding volunteer tasters. I was surprised at how much they liked the olive oil chocolate cake from MURDER BY THE HOOK.
I am already on the lookout for muffin ideas for the next Yarn Retreat book. I have come across all kind of cool idea of things that can be made in a muffin tin.
After just a few sunny warmish days, it turned cloudy again. There is even a chance of rain on Saturday. The good news from all the moisture in the air is that everything is a bright shade of green. Another month gone by so quickly. On to May!

Good morning -- I made scones yesterday -- must have had a premonition you'd mention them!! My favorite recipe has sour cream in it -- maybe not traditional but it makes for a moist scone -- they can be very dry. A Scottish friend told me the correct pronunciation of scone rhymes with gone.
I'm about halfway through the blanket using the front post double crochet. The only thing I don't like about it is that the blanket has a definite right and wrong side -- the post stitches make for a ribbed pattern on the right side but the wrong side has a rut!! Not bad but just not what I'd prefer.
My daughter called me with sad news -- she had to have her little dog put down. Scooty had developed congestive heart failure and then his bladder shut down -- he couldn't pass urine at all. He was 17 years old -- Dana had had him for nine years. She loved that little guy.
Today is lawn mowing day -- the noise has begun - the mowers, the edgers, the blowers -- oh my!!
Enjoy your day and your food research -- your family gets to sample all sorts of yummy things.
Patty, thanks for the hint about using sour cream. I like a moist scone. Thanks for the reminder about the correct pronunciation. It's interesting about the blanket having such a decided right side.
I'm so sorry about your daughter's dog. She gave him a good life.
Weather is going through indecision here. Blue sky, then clouds and wind. We're supposed to get rain tomorrow.
I hadn't thought about this in years but the absolute best scones I ever had were at a little antique shop/tea room in Durant, OK. It was on the second floor above a hardware store!! Had strawberry scones -- delicious.
Scones? Yum! And you're so right about May approaching fast. Time certainly goes on quickly these days!
Whenever I watch a British murder mystery on BritBox I am fascinated by their teas and scones as well as other confectionary delights. Father Brown's housekeeper makes a delicious looking strawberry scone with cream. Whenever a cake or scone is mentioned if I don't recognize the name I google it. Great fun! I've heard that food in the UK isn't the best but they have us beat with scones and cakes.
Patty, how interesting that you found a tea room in Oklahoma. I had been wondering if anyone ha d made scones with strawberries. You answered my question.
Linda O. Johnston, who would have expected rain this late in the season. And on the weekend of the Festival of Books.
Sally, I like the old time feel of Father Brown.
Floyd and I had a book that listed tea rooms in Texas and Oklahoma -- we went to a bunch of them. Most always delicious food and nice atmosphere. One place that we visited frequently had "Men's Tuesdays," when they had chicken fried steak and gravy on the menu!!
I went to the Festival of Books on Sunday with no rain. However, I was sitting under a covering and the wind came up and showered me with water from Saturday's rain so I got wet anyway. It was worth it.
Miriam, great that you enjoyed the Festival of Books.
