DANGER LOOMS is finally all together and ready for the August 25, release. I am not so ready. I have to update my website and do what I can to get the word out.
At the moment my thoughts are elsewhere. I noticed that our cat's pupils are not the same. At first, I thought it was just a difference in the light hitting them, but when it continued for a couple of days, I looked online. There is a name for it that I can't remember at the moment and is a symptom of something else and it was advised to take her to the vet. The world has changed since all we had to do was show up during office hours to be seen that day. Now, we had to make an appointment and wait several days.
I can tell that she isn't her usual self and my stomach is in a knot of worry. There is always a helpless feeling when a pet isn't well. The best we have been able to do is give her cuddles when she wants them. I am hoping that I am over worrying and that after the vet visit, I will feel a sense of relief that she is going to be okay. But in the meantime, it has taken over my thoughts.
Her name is Kona, but she has always been called Kitten. She is the first cat that I have know as an actual kitten. She was a gift to Jakey's mom from one of her students. They couldn't keep her because they found out they were allergic. She joined a cat household of Spyderman and Buttercup. She was there when Jakey came home from the hospital and has always been part of his backdrop--first at their house and then around seven years ago when all the cats moved here. The other two always had health issues, but Kitten seemed blessed with no problems other than not wanting me to cut her claws.
And now she is the only one left. I have gone through all kinds of cat and dog ailments. It is always so hard. I am sure I will better after the vet visit--whatever the news. Not knowing is the hardest.
Over the years we have had 13 dogs and cats who have come to live here in numerous ways. When they're not well never gets easy to deal with. Fingers crossed, it's good news.

Good morning -- I am so sorry to hear your cat has a problem -- hope it is something treatable. That the kitty has been in Jakey's life since he was born will make it especially hard for him if it's a serious problem.
"Danger Looms" has been ordered -- sounds like another good adventure for Casey.
I finished a granny rectangle blanket last night -- used a bitty stripe yarn in a color called Moonbeam -- a mixture of cream and very pale beige and gray. It's a color that will be appropriate for a man or a woman -- I'm very happy with how it looks. Next up is another ripple -- I've tried a couple different patterns and finally found one that I really like -- bonus is that there is very little stitch counting to do -- it's an easy one-row repeat. I've gone through my patterns again and rearranged them in the notebook I use -- discarded a couple that I tried and didn't like. This ripple plus the pattern I sent to you will be used several times, I'm sure. I need to make a baby blanket in the next few months -- a good friend of my son just found out a baby is on the way.

I have pre ordered my copy of Danger Looms! I'm sorry to hear about your cat. They become family so its hard when they aren't well. My boy Ollie is 11 and he has always been healthy but this past year he had crystals in his urine and then a hurt toe. Both are healed and he is doing well now but I'm not looking forward to the next time he may get sick. Hopefully your kitty is better again soon. With all the pets you have taken under your wing over the years, you remind me of Molly and her fur babies. Have a great weekend!
Patty, Moonbeam is a great name for a yarn color. It sounds lovely. I am still working on the ripple pattern you sent me It is very nice work on. It has enough changes that I have to pay attention, but not so many that it makes me tense.
The trip to the vet eliminated some possible causes of her eye issue. There were lots of other possible causes including bumping her head. He said it could clear up on it's own. He gave us a card for an ophthalmologist who could look into her eye. For mow, we're going to give it a few days to see how she does. She's eating and staying in the middle of things.
Sharon, I hope you enjoy Danger Looms. Your Ollie sounds like Kitten. She's just about that age and always been healthy. I went through the crystals in the urine with one of our cats. When my son was born we had three dogs and two cats. He would wake up crying and the dogs would bark and want to go out. It was who do I take care of first. I hope you have a great weekend.
I'm so sorry that your beloved cat isn't feeling well, Betty. I can certainly understand what you're going through, and I sympathize. My pets are dogs, and I am always watching to make sure there appears to be nothing wrong. I'm sending hopes your way that Kitten will get well soon.
I'm glad your cat is doing better -- hope whatever the condition is, it clears up soon. When my sweet little chihuahua, toy poodle mix, Janny, was about 14 years old, she suddenly was in obvious pain and had difficulty walking. We took her to the vet and he could feel a mass in her abdomen -- said that was pressing on her spine and was the cause of her walking difficulty. He said at her age and her size -- she weighed less than 5 pounds -- surgery would be difficult and the anesthesia would be tricky. He suggested that we put her down but we decided to go ahead with surgery -- if she died, at least we'd tried. The mass was a badly infected uterus -- he said in a dog her size it should be about the size of the tip of his thumb -- it was full in pus and coiled around in her abdomen. He managed to get it all out -- she came through with flying colors and lived for another 2 1/2 years. I remember the surgery costing $150.00 -- it would probably be thousands now.
Oh, it sounds like your vet is pretty encouraging. My calico cats are 13, my husband got them for me a few months before he died. They are strictly house pets, and always been very healthy. I don't know what will happen to me if they go first, and yet I hate to think of my daughter taking them in with her wild little tigers. I am 82, and have never in my life been without cats of all peronalities. Never a dull moment, even as they get older.

Patty, It's great that it worked out so well for Janny. And you're right it would cost a lot more now.
Linda Osborn, Kitten's eyes seem to be improving, so we're hoping that it will clear up on its own. I can understand your concern about your cats. They are your family.
I just ordered Danger Looms and I am looking forward to reading it. It sounds like your cat is doing better and I am so glad to hear that. My friend has two cats and I am their aunt. They are 2 now. One of the cats had a scratched eye. My friend had to put eyedrops in twice a day. In a cat. So we burritoed him in a blanket. I held him so he couldn't move, no easy feat, and my friend put in the eye drops. His eye cleared up. I hope your cat continues to improve.
Miriam, Giving cats medicine is definitely better with help. Nice that you are a cat aunt.
